Interview with Michael Brenner
Michael explains that after a number of years in sales and marketing, he focused on digital marketing and eventually content marketing at SAP. Since the company wanted to shift from outbound to inbound marketing, we realized that content was a huge gap that he knew he could fix. One of the solutions to the content problem was technology, and Newscred happened to be a fit for SAP. He loved the company so much, he joined their team as head of strategy.
Personal branding is a subject that Michael has been talking about for years. He believes that marketing is broken and a significant shift is happening. Employees interacting with people on behalf of the brand will be the norm in a few years, and the days of Mad Men advertising will be limited in scope.
When it comes to brands working with creatives outside of their four walls, they need to look for contributors who are authorities in their space and consistent in tone of voice and style. Basically, brands need to match their values to the values of the creators they work with.
We then shift the conversation into content budgeting. Michael breaks down a budgeting strategy into 3 components. Listen to the show to learn more about his content budgeting advice.
The interview is capped off with an explanation of how licensed content is NOT duplicate content.
